Construction wraps up on initial phase

As the construction season winds to a close, the initial phase of the First Street riverfront property development has been completed. The exterior of Building #1 is now finished, streetscaping has been installed along First and Illinois Streets, and the public parking deck is now open for use. Build outs for businesses withing the building will continue through the winter.

In September, the City approved plans for Building #3, to be located just east of the parking deck along the public riverwalk. Excavation and foundation work for Building #3 has begun, with goal of having the foundation in place before the winter, with major construction work to continue in 2017.

Construction on the exterior of Building #1 is wrapping up. Work will continue on the interior of the building as businesses finish out spaces. Streetscaping work along Building #1 is complete and the sidewalks are open.
The Illinois Street entrance into the lower level of the parking deck. The parking deck and sidewalks around Building #1 are now open, but the Illinois Street sidewalk remains partially fenced off as construction begins on Building #3.
The second level of the parking deck is accessed from the vehicle ramp on First Street. Pedestrian access is provided along the ramp to the second floor, and via a walkway and stairs down to the lower level. The first business in Building #1 is now open.
The future plaza and bi-level riverwalk area viewed from the Main Street bridge. The riverwalk will provide continuous pedestrian access along the riverfront and will be improved with seating, pedestrian amenities and landscaping. Access to will be provided from both levels of the parking deck to the riverwalk.
Building #1 and the Parking Deck are substantially complete. The parking deck is now open for public use. Minor finishing work remains to be completed on both structures. Excavation work for Building #3 has begun just east of the parking deck.
City officials celebrated the opening of the Parking Deck with a short ceremony and ribbon cutting on Oct. 3.
